Chicago's Uptown Neighborhood

Explore Uptown

The Uptown neighborhood has experienced a huge upswing in construction, beautification and development in the last few years. Anchored by its theater and culture, the grand history of bygone eras can be seen in the interior and exterior architecture of venues such as the Aragon Ballroom, Riviera Theatre and Uptown Theatre.

The historic, 120-acre Graceland Cemetery is also located in Uptown, as are the Green Mill Jazz Club, Little Saigon along Argyle Street, and Sheridan Park - a National Register Historic District.

Uptown is bordered by Ashland (west), Foster Avenue (north), Irving Park Road (south) and Lake Michigan (east). Transportation options include the CTA Red and Purple lines with stops at Lawrence, Argyle, Wilson and Sheridan, and buses on most major streets.

The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) is a fast and affordable way to get to and from Uptown. Uptown is serviced by the Red Line, which runs North-South through the city with several convenient access points located near the most popular visitor areas downtown. There are 4 Red Line stops in Uptown. The City of Chicago Park system has bike trails along Lake Michigan that run nonstop from Downtown to Uptown's lakefront attractions.
